Content Writing x Content Marketing = New Leads

My favorite math teacher once told us anything multiplied by zero equaled zero. The same apply in Digital Marketing. You can have great content and generate no sales. You can market your way to the moon and still make no new business. But what's the difference between the two and how knowing that will allow you to propulse your business to a new high.

Well, today, I thought I'd explore the differences between content writing, communication, and marketing content. We'll break them down into lay terms. I don’t know about you, but I kept confusing the terms when I started doing this.

1. Content Writing: The Storytelling Process

Think of content writing as the backbone of any marketing strategy. Content writers craft compelling articles, blog posts, social media updates, and more. They use their skills to engage, inform, and entertain readers. They are storytellers and painters.

Key points:

  • Content writers craft words to inform, educate, or captivate a tailored target audience.

  • They need to be adaptable as they write for various platforms and formats.

  • They aim to provide value and keep readers engaged with well-researched and informative topics and messages.

2. Marketing Writing: The Story Worth Telling

Content marketing is the rocket launcher using valuable, relevant, consistent content to attract, engage, and retain a clearly defined audience. It's like weaving a spellbinding tale to capture your audience's attention, build trust, and ultimately guide leads toward purchasing or taking a desired action. It is a tool to achieve specific business goals, like attracting new customers, nurturing relationships, and converting leads.

Key points:

  • Content marketers use content writing with a specific strategy: a clear plan that outlines your goals, audience, and distribution channels

  • They distribute and share content across various platforms to reach a targeted audience with a goal in mind

  • They analyze and measure the performance of the content and adjust their strategy consequently.

Once understood, you can finally bridge the gap, and optimize your funnel, and how businesses attract new leads, reach your targeted audiences, keep them, and increase your conversion rates. I don't know about you, but in my humble understanding, it means making money, saving lots of time and energy, and ultimately improving your quality of life. Isn't that why we are here in the first place?
